Vintage Folk Art Hand-Painted Wood Ship, Circa 1930s-40s
Vintage Folk Art Hand-Painted Wood Ship, Circa 1930s-40s. Fantastic folk art ocean liner with stacked wood construction for the body with wood cylinders employed for the smokestacks. Small nails used throughout for exterior columns. The additional details: the lifeboats, masts, rope and posts are crafted of wood, wire, nails and rubber. The distressed condition lends an eerie sense as if a recovered shipwreck. The hand-painted polychrome surface is rendered in a minimal palette of black, white and yellow. Unsigned.
Condition: Good vintage condition, the patinated and weathered surface is commensurate with age and use (as pictured), The lifeguards, originally crafted from painted rubber, are warped or missing in some spots. Breaks and losses to metal guide wires as shown. The front mast is missing.
