Vintage Italian Egidio Casagrande Hammered Brass Wall Vessel, Circa 1950s. A rare find, this piece is especially large in scale, incorporating hammered and repoussé details along its column body and fluted basin. Designed for wall hanging, it can function as a planter or vessel for dried florals. Stamped on the backside “E. Casagrande Borgo Valsugana Italy” with model number “1179.” Made in Italy.
Egidio Casagrande (1911-1962) was born in Borgo Valsugana, Italy, in the northern province of Trento. As a teen, he apprenticed in the workshop of Luigi Taddei, specializing in the production of iron and copper. Egidio began producing his own works in copper and brass in the 1930s. His company grew and, at one point, had about a hundred workers and apprentices. Throughout his career, he made sculptures for public places and even worked to produce pieces for Hollywood films such as Ben Hur, The Ten Commandments, and The Fall of the Roman Empire.
Condition: Great vintage condition. Wear commensurate with age and use. Small areas of scratching and natural verdigris as detailed in images.
