Vintage Cubist Carved Bas Relief Portrait, Circa 1940s. An exceptional work in wood, this modernist masterpiece shows a central figure with one arm extending upward, their hand resting on its head. Fabric seems to drape around the figure. The border has been treated rather simply with a repeated chisel texture, centering focus on the scene. Depth has been achieved through application of a darker stain settling within the low points and recesses. Unsigned, artist unknown.

Condition: Excellent vintage condition with minimal surface wear and light finish variation. The carved surface is soft and beautifully patinated. One small loss to the backside left corner, not visible from the front, as pictured.
