Antique Large-Scale Cedar Wood Document Box with Contracted Finish, Circa Mid-Late 19th Century. Rectangular cedar form with a faceted, hinged lid. The varnish has naturally contracted over time in a fascinating way, lending a textured, alligatored appearance to the exterior. The interior is left in its natural state, unlined. Features a mini keyhole on the lower portion of the box. Unsigned.
Condition: Excellent antique condition, natural surface variation present throughout with light losses and one area of white paint transfer on the rear, as detailed in photos. The locking mechanism is incomplete.
