Antique Trompe L'oeil Book Motif Papier Maché Pen Box, Circa Early 20th Century. Constructed from papier maché with a painted raised surface decoration. Meant to simulate a mini library with works by Shakespeare, Milton, Byron, Mark Twain, Dickens, Walter Scott, Burns, Longfellow, and L. Wallace. The maker is unknown but “U” and “C” branding is visible on each end. The interior features three compartments with a few antique pencils and a fountain pen nib left within. A previous owner also added a bit of personalization with three printed cut paper baby faces affixed to the interior of the lid.
Condition: Excellent antique condition with minimal surface wear as detailed in images. Light areas of rubbing and surface patina present from use.
