Vintage Mounted Whimsy Sculptures by Paul Bechtold, Circa 1970s. Mixed material sculptures aptly referred to as whimsies, each work posses unique characteristics in its material use, form and detail. Possibly crafted from driftwood or end cuts as the artist often used found material to create his works.
The small sculpture with the indifferent facial expression is mounted to an orange-painted trapezoidal wood base using a steel post. This work pivots as well to reveal a smiling face on the backside. Signed on the side of the sculpture.
The taller, square-cut sculpture is mounted to a quartz base with a steel post. This particular style was created as a kinetic sculpture, pivoting on its base to reveal a smiling face on both sides.
The small, tonal wood sculpture is made from naturally striated wood with a small remnant of metal in the right cheek. Its cheerful incised facial details are visible only on one side. Mounted to a trapezoidal wood base with a steel post.

Condition: Great vintage condition with very light ares of surface abrasion and minimal paint loss to the base of the orange style (as pictured)
