Vintage Large-Scale Teak Fin Sculpture With White Painted Base Base by Paul Bechtold, Circa Mid 20th Century. Modernist sculpture displaying an elongated concave teak fin mounted to a white-painted platform base. Branded, “PEB,” on the underside of the teak portion of the work.
Paul E. Bechtold of Long Island spent majority of his life in the skylight business, all while creating artwork behind the scenes largely constructed from leftover and found material. He collaborated with Frank Lloyd Wright early in his career on the Usonian House, but his personal body of work was largely unknown.

Condition: Great vintage condition, presents minor surface and finish variation on the teak with light and losses to the painted white surface along edges (as pictured). A couple areas of natural grain separation along the base of the teak as shown in images. Wear commensurate with age and use.
