Vintage Folk Art Black-Painted Tree Coat Rack, Circa Mid-20th Century
Vintage Folk Art Black-Painted Tree Coat Rack, Circa Mid-20th Century. This natural tree-form was sculpted and repurposed into a coat rack. The various branches along the body allow for multiple items to be hung simultaneously at different levels. A dowel and separate branch were both added to the structure, with possible evidence there were other branches present or possibly remnants of branch structures removed during the production of the piece. Mounted to a large, square footed base with raised edge, possibly to hold umbrellas from the lower branches. The entire form was painted black later in life with a slight sheen to the surface. Areas of brown paint from a previous layer can be seen throughout the piece. Unsigned.
Condition: Great vintage condition, surface variation present throughout, wear commensurate with age and use (as pictured)
