Rare Vintage Belgian Art Deco Malachite Intarsia Dresser Box, Circa 1940s
Rare Vintage Belgian Art Deco Malachite Intarsia Dresser Box, Circa 1940s. A masterful display in box form showcasing the beauty of the natural stone. Triangular and square cuts of vibrant green malachite with botryoidal formations and striations are organized in patchwork patterns throughout. Constructed around a hinged silver frame with a vibrant red velvet interior. Stamped with the maker’s mark and A835 (83.5% Silver) along the interior lip of the frame in two places. Maker unknown.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition with minimal wear. The malachite is virtually flawless, with no chips, cracks or losses. The silver frame presents light wear and finish variation as detailed in images. It’s likely the top was re-adhered to the frame earlier in its life, with small areas of adhesive visible along the edges of the velvet within the lid. Very light areas of rubbing and staining along the interior velvet lining.
