Exceptional Vintage Art Deco Prison Art Shellacked Matchstick Box, Circa 1920s-40s
Exceptional Vintage Art Deco Prison Art Shellacked Matchstick Box, Circa 1920s-40s. The use of material is unassuming until further inspection reveals the box is made entirely from matchsticks. The graphic inlay is punctuated with stacked triangular and diamond motifs along the sides and lid. The base of the box is raised on stepped feet. The interior of the box is lined in mauve satin with a silk cord and tassels attached to the inner lid. The amber shellacked surface presents a wonderful craquelure, adding another layer of dimension to the piece. Unsigned.
