Antique Large-Scale Black Painted Tin Canister with Shell Illustration Decoupage, Circa Late 19th - Early 20th Century. A black painted canister with double handles and fitted lid, originally intended for utilitarian use. The design resembles early milk cans. A central opening in the lid points to this piece being at one time sealed with a cork stopper. The surface is covered in applied shell illustrations likely taken from a 19th century book, some featuring hand-colored accents. Perfect for use as a vessel for dried florals. Unsigned / Unbranded.
Condition: Great antique condition, commensurate with age and use. Areas of paint loss, finish variation and applied illustration loss as detailed in images. Larger paint loss is concentrated to the lid as shown, with very minimal losses to the body’s surface design.
