Antique Folk Art Ash + Crate Basket Mi'kmaq / Passamaquoddy Made Sewing Box, Circa Early 20th Century. The base of this box was crafted from repurposed wood crate material with a fancy curl weave applied to the surface. The fine "porcupine curl" pattern was executed in ash splint with remnants of a silk ribbon interlaced within the weave. A delicately carved knob allows for the hinged lid to lift, revealing a seafoam green cotton-lined interior. The original crate branding is visible on the underside of the box. Unsigned.

Condition: Excellent antique condition with minimal surface wear. A couple small breaks in the weave, barely noticeable. The natural silk ribbon within the weave has degraded overtime though still present, as photographed. The lid shows areas of finish variation commensurate with age and use. The interior lining is fully intact, with only small areas of discoloration as shown.
