Vintage Pottery Body Vessel with Incised Abstract Motifs by Bess Schuyler, Circa 1960s. Hand-built, voluptuous ceramic form with a pronounced bust and nipped waist. The figural sculpture is incised with vertical garlands, zigzags and abstract designs. Finished with a painterly glaze of terracotta and greige. The vessel is finished with a glazed interior and an opening at the top for fresh or dried florals. Signed on the base.

Artist Bio: A New York native, Bess Schuyler attended the High School of Music and Art in New York City while sharpening her skills at Greenwich House Pottery, the Museum of Modern Art and the Art Students League. Schuyler specialized in ceramics and served as the director of the pottery program at the Henry Street Settlement House from 1957 until 1978.
