Vintage Folk Art Hand Crank Fly Fishing Line Dryer / Winder, Circa Mid-20th Century
Vintage Folk Art Hand Crank Fly Fishing Line Dryer / Winder, Circa Mid-20th Century. Handmade utilitarian piece created to dry out and store fishing lines (prior to monofilament lines, they were typically made of absorbent, natural materials) after a day of fishing. Simplistic in its construction, the form consists mostly of wood parts; a large flat base, the drum is made of dowels arranged between three discs, stretchers and a fishing reel hand crank. Pipe cleaners were added to keep the different lines separate, demarcated with paper tags noting the weight of each line. Tricolor remnants of different lines are present on the reel. Similar styles were manufactured by LL Bean and Abercrombie + Fitch, though these were mostly handmade creations. Unsigned. Great as standalone sculpture, or perfect for continued use as designed.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition, presents light signs of wear commensurate with age end use (as pictured)
Specs: 26" WIDTH 15 1/4" H | 10" BASE DEPTH | 20 1/4" BASE WIDTH
