Vintage Folk Art Embellished M.I.T. “Seniors” Dormitory / Naval Trunk, Circa 1949-1950. This trunk likely started life as a simple pine naval trunk with rope handles. Hand-painted by students from the projected class of 1952 in cream and steely blue. Phrases along the front include, “Down with 53’ + ABC” and “Class of 52’ We Hope!” along with mathematical formulas and symbols. Owned by students, J. Sabo and M. Yeager, from their time in the MIT dorms circa 1949-1950. Their names and nicknames “Joe” and “Bud” are painted across the top surface. The reverse of the trunk is signed largely by female students.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition with minimal surface wear. Areas of paint finish variation, rubbing and small scuffs as detailed in images.
