Antique + Vintage Wood Advertising Yardsticks, Circa Early - Mid 20th Century

The older of the two yardsticks, served as advertising for the Almy, Bigelow & Washburn Inc. department store, located in Salem and Beverly, Mass. The company can be traced back to 1858 with several name changes throughout its history (incorporation in 1899). This yardstick dates from between 1899-1910. The square-cut stick is painted black with the store’s name embossed in gold on two sides, and measurements on the remaining two sides. These measuring tools often doubled as walking sticks.

The second yardstick advertises, “A. Cohen - Beltings, Braids, Trimmings and Notions for the Cloak, Suit and Dress trade.” Originally located at 37 east 28th street, in NYC. This piece of fashion advertisement history dates from between the 1940s-1950s. The company’s name and goods are proudly embossed in black along the face, with directions to phone “Madison Sq.” at “6360”.

These pieces work beautifully repurposed as wall decor.

Condition: Great antique condition. Light wear, rubbing and surface finish variation as detailed in images.
