Vintage Painting of “Rocky's” Italian Restaurant NYC Signed N. Berg, Circa 1981. Street view of the former Little Italy eatery, Rocky’s, painted in 1981 shortly after its opening. Rendered in a muted palette in a minimalist manner, the artist highlights the corner restaurant with its distinct neon signage above the warmly lit gridded window, it’s entrance obscured by the shadows of buildings and the desolate streets. A singular dog is depicted mid-gait, crossing the street. Minimalist pine frame. Signed “N. Berg 81” en verso.
Rocky’s closed in 2011 after operating for 30 years.
