Vintage Small-Scale Wicker Covered Bottles, Circa Late 19th-Early 20th Century

from $98.00

Vintage Small-Scale Wicker Covered Bottles, Circa Late 19th-Early 20th Century. Each bottle features a glass body with a natural weave covering the top surface.

Each style offered individually. Wicker cologne bottle available.

The first (left) is a cologne bottle from Wilhelm Rieger of Frankfurt, Germany with partial original paper labels on the front and rear. This piece also retains a small bit of red twine, likely used in the original branding connecting to the cork top closure (now missing). Circa late 19th - Early 20th Century.

The second is a First Nation’s piece, likely made by the Penobscot people of Maine. The surface of the body is fully woven in a combination of sweetgrass and ash splint with two bands in a delightful 3-dimensional undulating design. A rare survivor of traditional Penobscot basketry. Unsigned. Circa late 19th - Early 20th Century.

Both bottles are water-tight, perfect for fresh or dried florals.

Condition:

Wicker Cologne - good antique condition with losses commensurate with age and fragility of the material. Retains partial original labels.

Sweetgrass and Ash with Undulating Details: Great antique condition. Minimal wear with some breaks and losses to ash splint weave along surface and base (as detailed in images).
