Rare Antique European Gilt Gesso + Carved Wood Demilune Bed Crown, Circa Mid 19th Century. A superb and large scale iteration of a bed crown, intended for mounting above a bed incorporating fabric drapery. A finely detailed example, this work is constructed from hand-carved sections with applied surface gilding over gesso. Four oval and diamond incised details along the base are tinted green and red to resemble gemstones. Perfect for display mounted to a wall or for use as a tabletop sculpture. Unsigned.
CONDITION: Excellent antique condition. Minimal wear considering age and use. Small areas of gilt and gesso loss (as pictured). A mount for wall-hanging was later added to the upper back of the crown (which can also be easily removed.)
