Rare Vintage Susana Espinosa Glazed Pottery Plate with Abstract Plant Motif, Circa 1994

$328.00

Rare Vintage Susana Espinosa Glazed Pottery Plate with Abstract Plant Motif, Circa 1994. This shallow plate is designed around an abstract, surrealist plant motif rendered in tones of rust, blue, green and orange. The surface design is created by carving away sections of the glaze before firing to give a multi-dimensional and textured look. Espinosa’s signature can be found on the reverse of the piece, dated 1994. Designed to be hung on a wall rather than for utilitarian use.

Ceramicist and draftswoman, Espinosa currently lives and works in Puerto Rico, well known for her countless ceramic mural commissions around the island. Espinosa is reputably Puerto Rico’s most important Modernist potter. She has belonged to the International Academy of Ceramics since 1989 and her work has won medals and honorable mentions at many international events. Her work is part of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Puerto Rico, Museum of Latin American Art, among many others.

Condition: Excellent vintage condition. No flaws.
